Alexa & Neal - Vale Church and Les Douvres Hotel

Alexa and Neal had an exceptionally busy wedding day. With nine bridesmaids, five flower girls and four page boys, all getting ready for a midday ceremony, I was concerned that everyone wouldn’t be ready in time.

But there were no worries. The bride and her bridesmaids and flower girls all got ready at Les Douvres Hotel where the reception was to be held later. There was a lot of activity in the crowded room, but suddenly it all came together and Alexa arrived at the church a couple of minutes early!

The groomsmen had a slightly easier time getting ready!

The children were very excited and beautifully behaved throughout the day.

Neal waited in the church with no obvious nerves.

Rev. Stuart Tanswell conducted the ceremony, with much humour.

While we photographed the family group pictures in the church doorway, the youngsters were engaged in more adventurous activity…

It seemed a long way from the Vale Church to Petit Bot for some pictures, but then we were close to Les Douvres for the reception.

The dining room was beautifully decorated. With lovely weather, people could mingle outside before being called in for speeches and the meal. With so many children to take care of, they had their own child minders and a “Kids Zone” outside, what a great idea that worked out brilliantly!

Speeches were great and the best man gave Neal a couple of awkward moments!

Last of the Light Brigade we have seen a lot of recently at weddings, another fantastic show from these guys. They certainly encouraged the dance floor to be pretty frantic for the rest of the night.

We took some lovely pictures outside in the gardens while the band took a short break.

Then more dancing followed up until it was time for the music to stop. What a lovely day!

Vanessa & Richard - Vale Church and The Farmhouse Hotel

A lot of planning had gone into this wedding and I am sure it was all Vanessa and Richard had hoped for.

With six bridesmaids and 3 flowergirls there was a lot going on at Vanessa’s parents’ house!

The groomsmen generally have an easier time with their preparations…

Little Evelyn, Vanessa and Richard’s daughter, had a couple of slightly older flowergirls for company. They all were so well behaved.

Rev. Stuart Tanswell conducted the lovely ceremony. One of the most touching moments was when he added Evelyn’s hand to Vanessa & Richard’s hands which he wrapped up in his stole, a spur of the moment action that seemed just so appropriate.

On the way to the reception we stopped at Bruce Russell’s gardens for some pictures, then it was just round the corner to The Farmhouse for the rest of the celebrations.

Speeches were before the meal, they included touching moments and also moments of humour.

Last of the Light Brigade performed their normal excellent routine, their energy certainly transfers to the wedding guests.

There was a break at 10 pm for a spectacular fireworks display!

Have a fabulous time on honeymoon!

Lauren & James - The Bella Luce Hotel, Guernsey

Lauren & James had such a relaxed and friendly wedding.  The ceremony and reception were all held at the Bella Luce Hotel, on a gloriously sunny September afternoon.

Lauren's bridesmaids were probably the most enthusiastic bridesmaids I had come across, full of laughter all day long!

There was plenty of emotion when John saw his daughter fully ready, a beautifully touching moment.

Wow!  A wedding dress with pockets!!  Stunning to look at, and practical too!

James and his groomsmen got ready at The Bella Luce, just a walk downstairs and they were ready for the ceremony!

Michelle from White Dove conducted the sweet ceremony.  The string quartet added to the atmosphere with their lovely music.

After the ceremony the confetti aisle was great fun.  

After the family group shots we took a quick trip to Sausmarez Park for some pictures of the couple.  Lauren had grown up just across the road from the park so this was an appropriate place to visit.  While at the park Lauren & James had a little practice for their first dance!

Back at the Bella Luce the beautifully decorated marquee awaited the guests.

We were treated to some great speeches, Lauren's dad followed by both Lauren & James together!  

Then after the meal it was the turn of the bridesmaids and lastly the groomsmen!  The latter certainly had a hard act to follow after the bridemaids.

After the first dance everyone else joined in and the dance floor was packed.

Shakeout normally play in Surrey and this was their first visit to Guernsey.  They were very well received.  

We took some beautiful photographs in the evening, I was especially pleased with this example incorporating the lights and bunting in the garden.

Holly & Tom - St. Matthew's Church & La Grande Mare Hotel

Holly & Tom were always going to have a very vibrant wedding day, lots of friends and family determined to enjoy themselves.  This was actually our fourth wedding for the family!  It was great to see them all together again with their lovely children.

Holly got ready at La Grande Mare Hotel, where the reception was to be held later.

Probably one of the most emotional times at this wedding was when Holly's dad saw her in her dress before going to the church, a beautiful thing to witness.

Tom got ready at his parents' house before making his way to the church.

We seem to have been to St. Matthew's Church a lot for weddings this year, a popular place.  Rev. Marc Trickey conducted the ceremony.

After the lovely ceremony we popped by Le Guet for pictures, all very conveniently close by between the church and reception at La Grande Mare.

The hotel was beautifully decorated for the couple.

Speeches preceded the meal, and were both amusing and touching.

What amazing rings, I had never seen a thumprint etched into a ring before, very personal.

After the first dance the dance floor was packed with people. Everyone had such a good time, it was great to photograph so many people with this much energy!

Sarah & James - St. Matthew's Church & Fleur du Jardin Hotel

Sarah & James had a remarkable wedding day.  It was the second wedding in little over a month for Sarah's family, her brother Jason had got married the month before!  A busy time for them.

We'll start with some pictures of the groom for a change here, James and his groomsmen enjoyed a good breakfast and then some golf practice at Nineteen, at St. Pierre Park's Golf Club.  A relaxing start to the day, though some were quite accomplished on the range, others less successful!

Back at James' house they continued their preparations.

A quick bit of wardrobe adjustment  - so glad they took the belt off before drilling another hole!

At Sarah's parents' things were even busier, but everyone managed to get ready on time.

These two took a close interest, though really I suspect they were waiting for a tasty treat from Gran!

At St. Matthew's Church, James awaited with a mixture of excitment and emotion.  

The Dean of Guernsey, The Very Rev. Tim Barker, took the ceremony.

After the wonderful ceremony the newly weds ran through a deluge of confetti, before being taken away in a beautiful Riley, thank you to Malcolm for his car, it provided a classic touch.

The Fleur du Jardin is a popular place, it was a perfect venue for this wedding.  The marquee was discreetly placed by the side of the pool and very effectively decorated.

Great speeches preceded the meal, which was a very well received hog roast.

I waited a long time to capture this precise moment....!

James' father, Robert, was the master of ceremony, there really cannot be anyone better for this role!

I was pleased to see Stoked were the band for the night, another high energy performance from them!

Sarah & James, congratulations and I hope you are having a wonderful time on honeymoon.

Michelle & Saint - St. Peter's Church & Perelle Headland

What a spectacular day this was!  The perfect weather for the marquee reception on Perelle Headland.

With seven bridesmaids and two flower girls there was a lot going on in the morning!

Meanwhile the groomsmen had an outdoor breakfast at Les Fleur du Jardin Hotel before they made their way to the church.  

Rev. Adrian Datta greeted the bride and conducted his normal lovely ceremony.

After a very enthusiastic shower of confetti Saint and Michelle drove themselves in the Landrover to the reception.

The hot air balloon tethered on the headland drew a lot of attention!  Certainly a unique feature at any wedding we have photographed!  Michelle was thrilled with this surprise that Saint had organised...

The detailing at the reception was a labour of love, Joy's had spent days preparing the site in the heatwave we have been experiencing.  It was all well worth the effort.

Alessia not only played her violin so beautifully in the church, she also made the wedding cake with her mum!  The cake was cut and served in the afternoon before the meal in the marquee.

Helen Elliott got plenty of attention for her distinctive style of paintings, she had provided a painting of the church for the order of service, the reception location was also beautifully interpreted.

As soon as people settled in the marquee they were treated to some entertaining speeches.

The evening light was exquiste, even after their meal people tackled the sack racing with a very competitive spirit!

Everyone enjoyed watching the sunset...

A lot of effort had gone into setting up the dance area.

A crowded dance floor made it tricky to photograph!

Jamie & Dave - St. Matthew's Church & The Bella Luce Hotel

We got to know this wonderful couple last year when we designed them a stunning engagement book full of photos from sessions we did over the autumn, winter and spring. Needless to say we were excited about getting to photograph their wedding as well.

The morning was busy with Jamie getting ready with her six bridesmaids, four flower girls and mum.

Nathan Thomas did Jamie's hair, it was great to watch his enthusiasm and attention to detail as he worked.

Naturally, Jamie looked amazing.

Dave got ready at The Bella Luce, where the reception was to be held later.  They had time for a quick drink before making their way to St. Matthew's.

Rev. Jon Honour conducted a lovely ceremony.  He has a great sense of humour, his sermon with the rolls of toilet paper made everyone laugh yet it also had some serious points.

It was a rather breezy day, so a picture stop at Saumarez Park made for a more sensible option than the cliffs!

The marquee looked beautiful with a subtle pink theme. 

Speeches stuck to tradition this time and were held after the meal.

The bouquet toss is always enjoyed by everyone, but no one was as excited as this young flower girl who managed to grab the bouquet first! 

The rings and cake were both equally stunning, with the Cake Lady doing a great job.

Stoked played in the first dance, what a brillant band.  They played with such energy and intensity that the dance floor was heaving for the rest of the night!

Ally & Josh - St. Pierre du Bois Church & Les Effards

This popular couple enjoyed a spectacular wedding day.  Virtually all the guests traveled over to Guernsey for the wedding, some coming from as far away as South America. 

Ally got ready at her parents' home with her five bridesmaids.  Her dress was perfectly fitted.

Josh got ready at Les Fleur du Jardin Hotel, they had time for a quick drink before heading to St. Peter's Church.  Rev. Adrian Datta greeted them at the church, Adrian has given the church a vibrant and friendly approach since he took over there.

The ceremony was touching with moments of humour.

We took a couple of group pictures in the doorway before the couple were showered with masses of confetti by their enthusiastic guests!

Light winds and attractive clouds were perfect for a few pictures on the cliffs before we joined everyone at the reception.

A brief candid moment and lovely backlighting gave the chance for this picture, Josh becoming a temporary bridesmaid as he helped Ally as they arrived at the reception!

The glorious weather continued, well gardeners and farmers would like a change to the weather, but the guests enjoyed their drinks in the sun in the beautifully tended gardens.

Speeches were distributed between courses, the best man in particular was great entertainment.

Music was provided by the Sensation Band, they certainly lived up to their name!  After the first dance the floor was packed continously.  It was certainly frantic at times, but everyone was just having great fun.

Fireworks gave people a break from the dancing, what a stunning scene...

The band restarted and so did the dancing right until the coaches arrived, what an amazing night!

Alice & Jason - St. Matthew's Church & The Bella Luce Hotel

Another beautiful day and another beautiful wedding.

Alice and her bridesmaids were not rushed and enjoyed getting ready together at Alice's parents' home.

Jason and his groomsmen got ready at his parents' house too, before they made their way to the church under perfect blue skies.

Noel, Alice's dad, drove her to the church himself.  Linda Le Vasseur conducted an enjoyable ceremony.

I don't think I have seen such a torrent of confetti before, it was heads down, eyes closed and run for it!

Jason drove his new father-in-law's car away, he did joke during his speech that he would have married Alice sooner so he could have driven the Aston earlier!

After a stop for pictures on the cliffs, where the sea was as calm as it could be, we proceeded to the Bella Luce for the reception.  

Speeches were before the meal and everyone was thoroughly entertained.

The car was so polished, the rings barely stayed in position for this shot!

One of the most thrilled people to catch the bouquet that I have seen!  You have my card!

City Limits were their normal superb standard, always great to listen to.

We also took the opportunity to take a few more creative images in the evening, always exciting to see what we can come up with.

The evening finished off with some frantic dancing on a crowded floor, what a great day.

Kelly & Michael - The Bella Luce Hotel

The gorgeous weather continued for Kelly & Michael's wedding.  The marquee at The Bella Luce looked stunning, both from the outside and inside.

Kelly got ready at the hotel and the ceremony was to be held in the garden, so not far to go and no excuses to be late!

Michael and his groomsmen looked very relaxed and cool.

Jayne of White Dove conducted the touching ceremony.

I love trying to capture the natural interactions between people having a great time.

Annette of Glorious Gateaux provided the beautifully made cake.

Last of the Light Brigade once again kept the dance floor heaving with their energetic style.

The bouquet toss finished off with probably the cleanest catch I have seen at a wedding.

What a wonderful day.  Kelly & Michael are not going away immediately after the wedding, but with weather like this Guernsey really rivals anywhere else in the world.

Jemma & Matthew - Forest Church & The Farmhouse Hotel

What a gorgeous day everyone had on Jemma & Matt's wedding.  The day after midsummer's day we were treated to clear blue skies and warm conditions.

Conveniently the hairdresser was just across the road from Jemma's parents house, very useful.

Jemma loked amazing in her sparkling dress, she certainly got some stunned reactions when her dad and bridesmaids saw her...

How many bridesmaids does it take to put a veil in...?  Luckily the hairdresser was able to pop in to show how to do it correctly.

Not so much for the groomsmen to do to get ready, except for a bit of gymnastics to get that jacket on!

The Forest Church was the only choice for this couple.  Matthew's granddad, Rev. Shaw, was once the long serving rector of the parish.

Rev. Claire Claxton conducted a lovely ceremony.

We stopped by Petit Bot for some pictures before going to The Farmhouse Hotel for the reception.

Speeches were great entertainment...

Last of the Light Brigade were just brilliant, the dance floor was quite frantic at times.

What a remarkable day.  We took a few compositions at night outside, always fun to create some more artistic pictures.

Jessica & Ashley - Vale Church & The Peninsula Hotel

Jessica's dress was a little bit different to normal and suited her perfectly.  The bridesmaid's dresses gave a splash of colour to a surprisingly grey day.

Everything was conveniently very nearby, Jessica got ready at her parents' house at Rousse, the ceremony was just across the bay at Vale Church, and the reception was held at The Peninsula!

Ashley and his groomsmen got ready at Jessica & Ashley's newly purchased home.

The last couple of months have been unusually dry, but the umbrellas came in handy at this wedding.

Jessica had some assistance from a stand-in bridesmaid!

It was our first wedding at the Vale Church with Rev. Stuart Tanswell, he conducted a lovely and humourous ceremony.

Rousse headland was the natural place to go to take some pictures, an area very dear to the couple.

The dining room at The Peninsula was beautifully decorated, and continued the blue colour theme.

Ashley's speech was the final one, it was certainly very heartfelt.

In the evening when the tide had risen just up to Rousse Pier, we took a stroll there for some more pictures, exactly the spot where this lucky couple got engaged.  We were just in time to avoid wet feet!

Joni & Robin's wedding - Capelles Methodist Church & Les Cotils

What a great day Joni & Robin had on their wedding day.  Joni's dress was spectacular, and hung in an unusual place in the bedroom.

Karen, my wife and assistant, photographed Robin and his groomsmen getting ready.  Bradley's shirt sleeves seemed a little long!

The wedding ceremony was held at Capelles Methodist Church, it has a suprisingly large interior.  Rev. Hinchliffe conducted a lovely ceremony, he had been challenged to work in a mention of tenpin bowling, he didn't disappoint and his address was very humourous.

Gran's walking stick was suitiably decorated with a wedding ribbon!

Les Cotils looked lovely outside in the gorgeous weather, the Harry Bound Room also looked great inside too.

With such lovely grounds at Les Cotils there was no need to go anywhere else for pictures.

Was the bouncy castle really there just for the children?!

There wasn't much left of the bouquet by the time it had been thrown and caught...

There was plenty of time for guests to relax and chat after the meal, the evening was warm and still, perfect for sitting outside.

City Limits provided their normal polished show for the evening, they keep the dance floor busy all night.

Robin's dance with his mum provided a few emotional moments...

We put the Chelsea Flower Show medal winning garden donated to Les Cotils to good use in the evening for some pictures.

Danielle & Matthew - St. Matthew's Church & The Farmhouse

What a full day Danielle & Matt had for their wedding.   They were certainly rewarded with a thoroughly enjoyable wedding.

Despite an early start, everyone was ready in good time.

The back of Danielle's dress was especially stunning, needless to say it suited her perfectly.

It was surprisingly chilly outside the church, with misty conditions and a brisk breeze.

Adele and Anai, the flower girls, were really sweet, and so well behaved all day long.

It was lovely to see Rev. John Luff in Guernsey specially to conduct this ceremony.  He has a long standing connection with the bride's family, I also knew him back in his farming days.

It was a bit breezy to stop on the coast for pictures, so we went to Saumarez Park instead, where it was nice and sheltered.

There was plenty of time for people to enjoy their champagne and have a laugh before the call in for the meal.

Chris, the Master of Ceremonies, was excellent in this role and seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself.

Danielle's dad was celebrating his birthday on his daughter's wedding day!  He made a grand entrance himself after the couple.

Danielle's speech was a tough act for everyone else to follow, there was much amusement when she revealed her Auntie's advice at the end of her speech!

As the afternoon progressed, the cloud cleared and it became noticeably warmer.  We had some atmospheric light for some beautiful pictures.

What stunning wedding rings, all designed and made by Emma, Danielle's sister.  A very personal touch.

This wedding had everything weather wise, the promised thundery showers kept away until it got dark though.   We had a lovely sunset, then some thunder and lightning.

We took this shot of some lightning, we waited a fair time for some more dramatic lightning, but even though it was all high in the clouds, it still gave us a dramatic image.  Of course I got soaked as I packed up after this image, worth it though!

City Limits performed to their usual high standards, everyone kept the dance floor very active.  One of the highlights of the wedding was the bride's dance with her father.  It was high energy with Alan doing virtually everything except spinning on his head!

A quite remarkable day.

Amanda & Carl - St. Matthew's Church & La Réunion

Amanda and Carl had a gorgeous, intimate wedding.

We started our coverage at the church where Carl had a good laugh as the guests arrived.  No evidence of any nerves here.

Le Mont Saint Garage had lent a very appropriate Fiat 500 for Amanda to be driven to the church by her father.

Rev. Karen Dack conducted a lovely ceremony.

We stopped just round the corner for a few pictures at Albecq.  Then went on to La Réunion for the reception.  This was the perfect place for a wedding of this size and the dining room in particular looked inviting.

The balcony was just right for a group shot of the entire wedding.

There were some lovely details, plus a very creative driftwood table plan.

People had a good opportunity for a chat before being called in for the best man's speech.  Jean-Pierre certainly had some amusing stories to tell about Carl!

Sunset from Guernsey's west coast can be spectacular, Cobo Bay was the perfect setting as the sun slowly set over the Grosse Rocque with us watching from La Réunion.

Amanda & Carl surprised us with an impromptu dance!

This looks serious, but was quite light hearted...

The evening finished off with some informal speeches.  What a really lovely day this was.

Caroline & Ben - St. Joseph's & The Farmhouse

Caroline & Ben used to work in Guernsey and thought our lovely island was well worth flying all the way from Australia to have their wedding here.  The majority of guests also travelled to the island, with a particularly strong contingent from Scotland.

 Caroline got ready with her bridesmaids and flower girls at an Aunt's house, it was quite a busy scene, but all were relaxed and importantly all on time.

 The two flower girls were absolutely delightful all day, in fact they probably take the award for the best behaved flower girls in all the weddings we have covered!

 Caroline's dress was beautiful, with some lovely details.

 Once the bridesmaids got into the right shoes, it was time to get to the church!

 Before the ceremony Canon Michael had a quiet moment with Ben at the doorway.  Ben seemed quite calm.

 The nearby roadworks and diversions caused a little confusion, the bride arrived just before the bridesmaids!

 So sweet and they did everything just perfectly.

 St. Joseph's is always a beautiful church to get married in.  Canon Michael conducted a very touching ceremony.

 Rain had been forecast during the day, but we seemed to avoid any rain throughout the whole day despite it looking likely at times.

 Petit Bot made a great place for some pictures on the way to the reception.

 Ben used to work at The Farmhouse, it says a lot that they came all the way from Australia to have their reception there.  The dining room was decorated to great effect.

 Caroline and her father gave the speeches, all very heartfelt.

During the evening the sun popped out from the clouds for just a brief moment, we took advantage of that opportunity to get some atmospheric images.

 The atmosphere was very friendly with all the guests interacting and enjoying themselves.

 After the first dance Caroline and her father had a dance together, this went down well with those watching.

 Yes, the flower girls were still going strong late into the night, still as excited and well behaved as before.

 There was plenty of activity on the dance floor.  After a while it was announced that there was going to be a Sound of Music sing along!  Apparently Caroline is an avid fan of the film.  Another nice moment from the day.

 The day closed off with a lovely last dance.

What a wonderful day, have a safe trip back home to Australia Caroline & Ben.

Emily & Anthony - A Christmas Wedding Story

Winter weddings are wonderful, I find the ambience and lighting are often highly photogenic.  Emily & Anthony got married at the Greffe on Friday and then had a full day of ceremony and reception the following day, this was the day before Christmas Eve.  So anyone at the wedding had better have completed their Christmas shopping before, otherwise they will have missed their chance.

Emily's dress was so beautiful, I was especially pleased with the elements that came together to give me this picture of the dress.

 While I covered the bride's side of the preparations, my wife Karen, photographed Anthony and his groomsmen.

 The ceremony was taken by Jane White at St. James, the Whittaker Hall is always special, but made a bit more so by the addition of the Christmas decorations.

 The weather was a bit dull and grey, with some drizzle.  But fortunately everyone who travelled to Guernsey for the wedding had managed to arrive in time, despite all the fog delays over the last few days.

 A confetti aisle indoors is not a common event, also pretty difficult to photograph in a dark interior!

 Dull weather and a mid winter garden doesn't mean that there aren't opportunities to take lovely photographs. as we proved on a quick stop at Candie Gardens.

 Another great choice of venue for the reception, The Old Government House Hotel.  The dining room was decorated to stunning effect.

 A humorous juxtaposition as Anthony appears framed by the picture on the wall!

 There was plenty of time for people to have a drink and a good laugh before the call for dinner and speeches.

 As soon as I saw the beautiful decorations in the doorway of the OGH, I wanted to take something of the couple there. This is one of my favourite recent shots and sums up the atmosphere I wanted to create perfectly.

 Dancing continued to midnight and culminated in a lovely moment as the families formed a tight circle during the last song.  What a way to finish off such a special day.

Stephanie & Samuel - Day Two

On a damp afternoon the Bella Luce Hotel was a welcoming venue for the second day of Steph & Sam's wedding celebrations.

A cosy interior and good music greeted those gathering together.  The theme was Disney fancy dress!  Some people who were there the day before were barely recognisable, there had clearly been a huge effort amongst the guests to get dressed for the occasion.

 Sam's family have a keen interest in photography, in fact some of his relatives were involved in setting up the very first photography clubs in Guernsey.

 I thought Eeyore was meant to be miserable!  Mind you his tail wasn't fixed with a nail so that could explain things.

 A second day and a second spectacular cake, any excuse for more cake is a good one in my opinion. No-one could tell it had had a little mishap on it's journey to the hotel!  No problem for this bride.

 Chris, the best man, performed his speech for the second evening.

 Then it was time for the party to really get going, Q-Sky performed a fantastic job as DJs and with the lighting.

 Some costumes must have been pretty hot to dance the night away in...

 Beauty & The Beast, aka Steph & Sam, didn't take to the dance floor for any formal first dance.  So at the end of the evening I was pleased to spot them having a quiet dance while the party was in full swing next door.  A nice way to finish off the coverage.

Stephanie & Samuel - Day One

Steph and Sam had a two day wedding.  The first day was a quiet event, with the legalities taken care of in the Dorey Room at St. James, followed by a meal at the Bella Luce Hotel.

 The relaxed nature of the event was evident right from the start.

 Steph walked down the road, swapped shoes at the gate and went straight into the ceremony.

 Luckily someone had a baby wipe handy when the pen left ink on Steph's hands!

 On the way to the Bella, we took a few pictures at Saint's Harbour.  Nice to have such gorgeous scenery nearby, especially for Steph's friends who had travelled all the way from Boston for the wedding.

 A lovely touch was the personalised lego figure made up for each person at the table.

 Speeches took place between courses.

 A great day, with more excitement to come the next day!

EJ & Andy

This was a really lovely event, over a couple of days.

EJ & Andy got married at home with just a few friends and family with them.  It was a fun afternoon,  perfect to lounge around in lovely warm and sunny weather.

My daughter Rosemary assisted this day, then covered the main reception at Castle Cornet the following day without me.

It was great to see the retired Greffier Stephen Francis called in to conduct this ceremony.

 Later on people made their way to The Captain's for an evening meal.  A perfect location for those present to enjoy themselves.
